Outliers

Outliers are observed values that are outside the limits of Q1 minus 1.5 times the interquartile range or Q3 plus 1.5 times the interquartile range.  Extreme outliers multiply the interquartile range by a factor of 3.

 

Boxplots

​

A boxplot is a visual representation of the minimum, first quartile, median, third quartile and maximum values in a dataset. The rectangular box illustrate the limits of the first and third quartiles which is also the interquartile range. The median lies within the box. The whiskers extend from quartile 1 to the minimum and from quartile 3 to the maximum.
